Beaulieu allowed to sue White Earth AgentIn an interesting report on a court case from 1887, it was found that half-breed newspaper publisher, Gus. H. Beaulieu, was able to bring suit against the White Earth Indian Agent despite an argument that he did not have the right to do so because of his Indian blood. Beaulieu was awarded $200 damages and the right to continue publishing his newspaper. This court case was the first on record where a half-breed was granted such a right.
