These photos are fantastic. I am a lawyer for the Métis Nation of Alberta and am often called on to give presentations on Métis rights and scrip. I use a lot of the black and white versions of these pictures in my slide decks. Could I get permission to use these versions when I speak for the MNA? People would love them. Please don’t post this comment. Thank you.

The photo identified as a group of Metis men who were prisoners in 1885...Do you know why they were prisoners, and where this was?

They were the councilor of Louis Riel. See http://maiacaron.org/my-metis/ and http://www.metismuseum.ca/resource.php/04825. One of your ancestors is listed there.

These men were arrested after the resistance at Batoche in 1885 and were tried for treason with most of them being given 7 yer sentences for their involvement.
Two of the men are Parenteaus. One is Pierre Parenteau, my great great great grandfather. I'm pretty sure the 3rd man in from the left is Pierre. He died in prison during his 7 year sentence.
I think you can find a list of the men's names in Howard Adams book, Prison of Grass.

Maxime Marion is one of my ancestors, some of my relatives are named after him, actually one of my nephews carries the name.
